Databases and Search Engines

The most crucial factor when dealing with database driven websites (including e-commerce shopping cart software), is to minimise the number of parameters which the search engine spiders need to index. Ideally, you should limit your database to single parameter queries. In certain cases, it may be feasible to construct a standalone web page for each recordset. As a general rule, if you have any more than two parameters, it is unlikely that your web pages will be effectively indexed.

The other major consideration which needs to be made with database driven websites is to ensure that spiders do not see multiple copies of your recordsets, as they will see this as spam.
