Is it true that by displaying Google Adsense on my site I can expect the Google spider to come around more often?

There is some logic in this, as Google obviously would want sites which earn it more revenue to appear higher in its index. However, Google also has to maintain relevant search listings, and therefore cannot be seen to be offering a massive advantage to its Adsense partners. Even if there is no specific gain in ranking, Google spiders have to come round regularly to determine the most relevant AdsenseT units to display.

If your site is indexed more frequently, you get to reap the benefits of any content you add much quicker. This in turn enables your new pages to be credited for any outbound links they give more quickly, thus giving a faster opportunity to boost the page rank within your overall network. Anything which speeds up the timeframe for the return on investment in developing new web pages is always a major bonus, especially as it can sometimes take search engines several months to fully index a larger web site.

Note that Adsense is only suitable for sites which are essentially acting as information portals. Adsense is not suitable for sites whose sole purpose is to sell a single product or range of products, as they can suck traffic away from your shopping cart, thus reducing revenue rather than increasing it.
