SEO > WALT™ search engine optimisation - External Factors

External Factors that may affect projections

Although our revenue projection model is based on many years of experience with search engines, it can still be subject to a number of external and internal factors which may be beyond the control of the company.

  • Trends in overall internet use. Although the internet is projected to continue growing, the rate of growth may rise or fall. This can be affected by technological issues such as the emergence of mobile internet, and the availability of broadband.
  • Changes in economic conditions. For example. Financial Services have some ability to counteract fluctuations in the economic cycle, as even a recession can bring about greater levels of demand for debt consolidation and debt management related products.
  • International events and terrorism. The travel industry, for instance, is particularly susceptible to the terrorist threat.
  • Changes in search engine algorithms. Our projections are primarily based on our continued ability to stay at the forefront of changes in search engines. The Google™ search engine is particularly prone to changes in its algorithm, which has had a devastating effect on many search engine optimisation companies. Although our traffic levels fell after last year’s Google™ “ Florida ” update, these losses were only around 20% of our overall traffic. We have now regained from these losses, and have grown traffic to record levels in January 2004.
  • Changes in prominence of search engines. Our projections are based on Google™ maintaining the lion’s share of the search engine market. Even with Yahoo dropping Google’s organic results in February this year, Google and partners still maintain over 50% of the search market. Despite our focus on Google™, our rankings on MSN™ are actually even stronger. MSN™ remains the most likely competitor to challenge Google™ during the coming 12 months.
